Julius Caesar, 49-44 BC. Denarius (Silver, 19 mm, 3.09 g, 12 h), with L. Aemilius Buca, moneyer. Rome, January-February 44. CAESAR•IM - P - M Wreathed head of Julius Caesar to right; behind, crescent. Rev. L•AEMILI[VS] - BVCA Venus standing front, head lowered to left, holding Victory in her right hand and long scepter adorned with star in her left. Babelon (Julia) 34 and (Aemilia) 13. Crawford 480/4. CRI 102. RBW -. Sydenham 1060. An excellent piece with attractive old collection toning and a fine lifetime portrait of Caesar. Struck somewhat off center and with a few light scratches, otherwise, good very fine.
